Articulated Komodo Dragon Skeleton SC-027-A The largest lizard living today, this Komodo Dragon specimen was over 10 feet long when alive. The articulated skeleton measures just 4 inches short of 10 feet. Their skulls are very similar to the extinct aquatic dinosaurs known as Mosasaurs. The genus Varanus first appeared 40 MYA in Asia. They migrated to Australia when it collided with Southeast Asia about 15 MYA. A second lineage evolved and moved throughout Australia and the Indonesian archipelago approximately 12 MYA. This lineage retains a prominent presence today. The Komodo Dragon differentiated from its earliest Australian ancestors about 4 MYA. They were able to migrate to their present range on the Indonesian islands of Flores, Rinca and Gila Motang and finally to Komodo Island about 10,000 to 20,000 years ago, when sea levels were lower during the last ice age. Licensed to Bone Clones® by the ©Los Angeles County Museum of Natural History, a portion of the sales goes to further their work. Custom Mounting Available for All Skeletons. Please Inquire. For additional stability, two plastic supports (as seen in the photos above) are provided with the purchase of the articulated skeleton. Disarticulated Komodo Dragon Skeleton SC-027-D |
