Orangutan Femur SC-002-F From our male Orangutan Skeleton, SC-002-A. Restricted to a small area on the island of Sumatra, Orangutans are the biggest primate to be arboreal. Sumatran has several large carnivores that prey on orangutans so they descend to the ground far less often than those in Borneo. The female, which may be only half the size of the male, spends even more of her time in the trees than does the heavier male. The Orangutan's hip, knee and ankle joints are highly flexible. Unlike the African apes, which place their weight on their knuckles when they walk, the Orangutan places its weight on its fists (both knuckles and palms).
