Human Comparative Fetal Osteology Collection KO-340-CSET Thorough and accurate evaluation of human skeletal remains demands a detailed understanding of human skeletal morphology at all stages of development. Access to a high quality reference set of fetal remains of known age is critical for learners, teachers, and practitioners alike. Bone ClonesŪ is proud to offer the world's only fetal osteology reference set to span the intrauterine growth period from 13 weeks to full term. This collection of both cranial and postcranial remains is a fantastic addition to any osteology/anthropology teaching or service laboratory. Cast from real bones, these 53 postcranial skeletal elements are excellent representations of human osteology during fetal development. They can easily be utilized as reference material by laboratories that study subadult remains; alternatively, they can be evaluated by students as part of their hands-on training in human fetal osteology. Human Fetal Full Term Set of 8 Postcranial Bones KO-350-SET This set includes both the left and right mandible bones, which usually come together at the end of the third trimester. The mandible, the largest and strongest bone in the face, is the second bone to begin the ossification process. The set also includes a scapula, humerus, rib, ilium, femur, and tibia. Cast from real bones, these 8 postcranial skeletal elements are excellent representations of human osteology at this stage of early neonatal development. Fetal Full Term Set Larger Image. Human Fetal 9 Months Set of 8 Postcranial Bones KO-358-SET The body contains 12 pairs of ribs, all of which are crescent-shaped. At birth, ribs are similar in shape to adult ribs, but they differ in vertical angulation. At the fetal and neonatal stages the ribs are fairly horizontal. By adulthood, they are higher at the vertebral end than at the sternal end. In addition to a rib, this set also includes a right and left mandible, scapula, humerus, ilium, femur and tibia. Cast from real bones, these 8 postcranial skeletal elements are excellent representations of human osteology at this stage of late fetal / early neonatal development. Fetal 9 Months Set Larger Image. Human Fetal 8 Months Set of 8 Postcranial Bones KO-366-SET Until one year of age, the tibia and the humerus are of similar lengths; after this age, the tibia is longer than the humerus. The proximal epiphysis of the tibia starts to ossify near the end of the third trimester. Its identification can be used to age a fetal skeleton. In addition to the humerus and tibia, this set also includes the right and left mandibles, a scapula, rib, ilium and femur. Cast from real bones, these 8 postcranial skeletal elements are excellent representations of human osteology at this stage of late fetal development. Fetal 8 Months Set Larger Image. Human Fetal 7 Months Set of 7 Postcranial Bones KO-374-SET The scapula, classified as a flat bone, is triangular in shape. The scapula provides attachments for muscles and forms the shoulder socket, at which it connects to the humerus. Other flat, or tabular, bones include the ilium and the bones creating the top and sides of the skull. This set also includes a mandible, humerus, rib, ilium, femur and tibia. Cast from real bones, these 8 postcranial skeletal elements are excellent representations of human osteology at this stage of late fetal (third trimester) development. Human Fetal 6 Months Set of 8 Postcranial Bones KO-381-SET This set includes a mandible (left and right portions of lower jaw), scapula (shoulder blade), humerus (upper arm), rib, ilium (winglike portion of pelvis), femur (thigh) and tibia (larger of the lower leg bones). Cast from real bones, these 8 postcranial skeletal elements are excellent representations of human osteology at this stage of mid fetal (second trimester) development. Human Fetal 5 Months Set of 8 Postcranial Bones KO-389-SET The ilium, categorized as a flat, or tabular, bone, is the winglike piece of the innominate. The ilium can be distinguished from the scapula, which has a similar flatness, by its greater thickness and more rounded contours. This set also includes the mandible (right and left), humerus, rib, femur and tibia. Cast from real bones, these 8 postcranial skeletal elements are excellent representations of human osteology at this stage of mid-fetal (second trimester) development. Human Fetal 4 1/2 Months Set of 3 Postcranial Bones KO-325-SET The bones of the body can be divided into long bones, flat bones, short bones and irregular bones. The long bones are also called the tubular bones and are characterized by a long tubular shape with an epiphysis at one or both ends. The bones of this set consist of three long bones: the humerus, femur and tibia. The humerus can be distinguished from the femur and tibia by the deep depression found on the distal, posterior end of the bone. Cast from real bones, these 3 postcranial skeletal elements are excellent representations of human osteology at this stage of early second trimester development. Fetal 4 1/2 Months Set Larger Image. Human Fetal 4 Months Set of 3 Postcranial Bones KO-328-SET During the first trimester, the femur may be confused with the similarly sized and shaped humerus and tibia. Beginning in the second trimester, the femur distinguishes itself as the longest of the bones. The humerus, femur, and tibia are three of the body's long bones. Cast from real bones, these 3 postcranial skeletal elements are excellent representations of human osteology at this stage of early second trimester development. Fetal 4 Months Set Larger Image.
