Narwhal Tusk KO-254 Order This / View Your Cart Our Narwhal tusk is a bit shy of 6 feet long and 2 ¼" wide at the base. The tusk has a steel center to prevent bending or warping. A threaded steel rod protrudes from the end for attachment to the solid walnut base. Both the base and the rod are removable to allow for horizontal hanging (see photo). The entire Bone Clones® Narwhal tusk is expertly cast to reveal its delicate and beautiful spirals and the recessed base. It is shipped in a rigid tube that protects the piece in transit. The Narwhal is the source of the mythical unicorn and was long believed to have magical properties. Narwhals are cetaceans, most closely related to the familiar beluga whales often seen in marine parks around the world. Males have an amazing tooth, or tusk, that is unique in the animal kingdom. This tusk most often grows from the left hand side of their upper in a left-turning helix (spiral twist), reaching lengths of almost 10 feet in an animal that reaches only 16 feet itself. Rarely will a male have two tusks or a female have any. Narwhal Tusk with base Larger Image. Please Use Your Back Button To Return To This Page. |

Narwhal Tusk KO-256 Order This / View Your Cart Our Narwhal tusk is a full 90 inches tall and 2 1/2 inches wide at the base. The tusk has a steel center to prevent bending or warping. A steel threaded rod protrubes from the end for attachment to the solid walnut base. Both the base and the rod is removable to allow for horizontal hanging (see photo). The entire Bone Clones® Narwhal tusk is expertly cast to reveal it's delicate and beautiful spirals and the recessed base. Shipped in a rigid tube that protects the piece in transit. Narwhal tusks are riddled with millions of channels that connect their nervous system directly with the artic waters they live in. This unfathomable adaptation would almost certainly lead to a lifetime of excruciating dental pain for any other known creature. Today the Narwhal's tusk is still little understood by modern science. It is possible that these millions of microscopic channels are analogous to the "ampules of Lorenzini," long known about in sharks or the recently discovered sensory pits found on the rostrums of crocodilians. The Narwhal continues to astound and mystify, its secrets still largely its own. Narwhal Tusk with base Larger Image. Please Use Your Back Button To Return To This Page. |
