Disarticulated Gibbon Hand KO-149-D Disarticulated version of our articulated gibbon hand. The gibbon's thumb is positioned near its wrist, allowing it to use its fingers as hooks when swinging from branch to branch, in a movement called brachiating. Its arms are longer than its legs, and it has opposable big toes, which allows it to walk balanced upright on thin branches. These small apes are almost exclusively arboreal, displaying "suspensory" behavior. Other characterisitics of this highly successful family include monogamy, a diet of ripened fruit supplemented with young leaves and invertebrates, elaborate, sometimes beautiful vocalizations and territoriality. The smallest of the apes, gibbons can be found in the rainforests of Southeast Asia. Also available articulated. For comparative study, we produce Bone Clones® life casts, skeletal hands and feet, full skeletons and skulls of all the great apes. Please check under these categories for additional products.
