Walrus Tusks (pair) KO-031 Order This / View Your Cart A pair of tusks from our partial Walrus skull, BC-108. Both Male and Female Walrus canines develop into great tusks, which are used primarily to signify social status. An animal's sex, age and dominance can be determined by the size and shape of its tusks. The tusks also serve as headrests, offensive or defensive weapons, and ice picks, hooking over ice to stabilize when sleeping, breaking breathing holes in the ice, and helping pull the animal out of water onto ice floes. The name Odobenus, which means "tooth walk," was given to the Walrus family by an 18th century zoologist after hearing reports of this last behavior. Our Bone ClonesŪ Walrus tusk replicas capture the textural details of these impressive canines, and are painted to match the original. Please check out the rest of our Teeth and Fangs category, as well as Related Products, below. We also produce a selection of other Marine Mammal specimens. |
