Sabertooth Cat, Hoplophoneus primaevus Skull in matrix CB-19 Sabertooth Cat, Hoplophoneus primaevus Skull in matrix CB-19, (Leidy 1851). The type H. primaevus belongs to a group of Oligocene sabertooth cats that are found throughout the lower Brule (Drellan) and into the upper Brule (Whitneyan). This very rare specimen was discovered in the lower Brule sediments. We are grateful to the Babiarz Institute of Paleontological Studies for the opportunity to cast this individual.
