Andean Condor Skull BC-297 A New World vulture species from South America, the Andean Condor feeds on carrion. A lack of head plumage allows the vulture to poke its head in a carcass without becoming too unclean. The male has a fleshy comb on its head, while the female has red eyes. The adult weighs between 20 and 30 pounds, is 4 feet tall, and has a life expectancy of about 50 years. With a wing span of 10 feet and the help of warm air currents, the Condor may fly 200 miles a day. |
