Human Female Scaphocephalic Skull BC-193 This skull provides an excellent example of a condition in which the skull is abnormally long and narrow as a result of premature closure of the sagittal suture, with heavy centers of ossification in the line of the suture, usually accompanied by inflammation and atrophy of the optic papillae. A custom metal display stand is also available below. This is a very complex specimen. Assessment of race, sex and age are difficult as a consequence of scaphocephaly. There are mixed racial features with a slight preponderance towards the Asian/Black spectrum. Given these racial features, more likely than not, this individual was a female. It is difficult to evaluate age by assessing cranial suture closure because of the premature fusion of the sagittal suture. For an analysis report (PDF format), a copy of which will be sent with the purchase of this specimen, go to BC-193-Report.
