Human Female Asian Skull BC-149 This is an excellent example of an Asian Female. Features which suggest Asian ancestry include a flat nasal root, an obtuse nasal angle, a broad nasal aperture from top to bottom, short nasal spine, no nasal sill, a somewhat rounded dental arcade in the upper jaw, mild to moderate prognathism and shovel-like incisors in the upper jaw. In addition, the zygomatic bones retreat posteriorly from the plane of the face. Features which are consistent with female include mild prominence of the cranial sites for musculofascial attachment including the nuchal lines, the temporal lines, the mastoid processes of the temporal bones and the supraorbital tori. Also, the nasion is smooth and the supraorbital margins are sharp. It may be appropriate to use this specimen as a discussion piece around the concept of sex determination in the context of race variation, while recognizing that the concept of race assessment is controversial. It may also be appropriate to use this skull to discuss the concept of sutural complexity in terms of race determination. A custom metal display stand, S-BC-149, is also available.
