White-tailed Jackrabbit Skull BC-145E Found throughout western and central Canada and the United States, white-tailed jackrabbits prefer open grasslands, pastures, and open fields. Jackrabbits are hares and hares are rabbits, but not all rabbits are hares. Hares are characterized by their large, well-vascularized ears and long, muscular hind legs, which can propel them at 30 mph or 15 feet into the air. They are also precocial (well-furred with open eyes) at birth, as opposed to rabbits, which are born altricial (naked and hairless). Jackrabbits average weights of 7 to 9 pounds and have large upper incisors for grazing the tough grasses of their prairie homes. They are an important prey item for a variety of mammalian and avian predators. Their large ears and eyes afford them advanced warning, and they are able to zigzag rapidly or even swim to escape, yet they still constitute a large part of the diet of many carnivore species. The Bone Clones® Economy Series - Our goal with this series is to produce affordable quality replicas for zoos, museum discovery centers, schools, artists, etc., so that a new generation of enthusiasts can learn about nature. All Bone Clones® Economy Series skulls are made from the same molds, following the same procedures as our regular Bone Clones® replicas except we do not tool or finish these skulls to the same detail. We still select only the finest specimens to cast, and carefully prepare each mold to capture the original's structure and texture. We presently offer some common North American animals and select human sets in this series. View The Economy Series Catalog, Click Here. |
