Wolverine Skull BC-090 Related to ferrets and weasels, they are the second largest living member of the family Mustelidae (only the Sea Otter is larger). They are aggressive and extremely strong predators. They are able to keep bears and wolves from their prey and will eat anything from mice, eggs and large deer. Their large pads and claws allow them to run down prey in deep snow. They are fast, running at 30 miles per hour. Wolverins range from North America through Siberia. They also appear to be very clever as they are extremely hard to trap. They have been reported to drop sticks in traps to spring them and even bury traps in snow. Due to their hunting ability, they have been considered pests and are often shot. They have been almost totally eliminated in the US and most of Canada and found only in parts of Scandinavia and the Soviet Union. |
