Wolverine Skull BC-090 Related to ferrets and weasels, Wolverines are the second largest living member of the family Mustelidae (only the Sea Otter is larger). They are found in northern Eurasia and in North America, where there are very cold climates and little human activity. Opportunistic eaters (scavenging when necessary), they may eat eggs, squirrels and larger prey. Aggressive, extremely strong and fast (running up to 30 mph) predators, their large pads and claws allow them to run down, for example, moose or reindeer, in deep snow. Wolverines also appear to be very clever as they are extremely hard to trap. They have been reported to drop sticks in traps to spring them and even bury traps in snow. |
