Tarsier Skull BC-050 Small, insectivorous, nocturnal tree-dwelling primates, tarsiers receive their name from their greatly elongated tarsus, or ankle, bones. This adaptation allows them to make prodigious, sure-footed leaps through the trees. Their huge eyes, proportionally the largest of all mammals, are fixed in their enormous sockets. Tarsiers, like owls, can turn their heads 180 degrees in either direction. Their remarkably large eye sockets are revealed in this precise cast. Tarsier Skull Larger Image.
