Tuatara Skull BC-028 Restricted to islands off the coast of New Zealand, the highly protected Tuatara has remained virtually unchanged for some 130 million years. It is the sole survivor of a reptilian order which became virtually extinct some 70 million years ago and is now represented by a single genus with one species, the Tuatara, cast from a specimen loaned by The Philadelphia Academy of Sciences, which gets a percentage of the selling price.
