Female chimps do not become pregnant until they are 10-12 years old and give birth to one offspring about every 5 years. Chimps have long arms, opposable thumbs and opposable big toes. Omnivores, they feed primarily on fruit, berries, leaves and buds, although they may occasionally prey on baboons or monkeys. They produce a wide variety of communicative sounds and gestures and have a complex social structure. They spend time on both land and in trees, but do most of their sleeping in trees.
